The children have really been inspired by our English this week as we have discovered what Slam Poetry is. The children have responded brilliantly and enjoyed watching a poetry slam; they judged the performances and explained their preferences. Alexia and Annie were even inspired to create and perform their very own slam poem after just one lesson - fab work girls!  In maths this week the children have worked really hard to understand rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 or 10,000 with up to six digit numbers. We finally cracked it on Wednesday and continued to use our visual reminder to help us with which column to focus on. We also continued our Journey into space with Mrs Hughes (our music teacher) and we all had the opportunity to read a piece of music and play it on xylophones

Reminders:

In English this week the children began to explore another of Shakespeare's plays: "A Midsummer Night's Dream". They have watched an animated version and studied a painting inspired by the play. In maths this week the children have explored adding and subtracting powers of 10. Our music work was extremely enjoyable as children explored concepts and terms such as "dynamic", "pitch" and "texture" and had a go at reading music and playing xylophones and chime bars. In topic, we acted out the universe and became the solar system on our yard! We looked at how the planets rotate and orbit the sun and why we get night and day and why the seasons change.

This week in English the children have continued to work hard participating in drama activities around the play "The Tempest". They produced some amazing character portraits using Shakespeare's descriptions. In maths this week the children have continued to explore place value with 4, 5, 6,and even 7 digit numbers! The children began their music project this week too, working with Mrs Hughes to explore "Journey into Space". Their singing and exploration of "space music" was fantastic! no

They've had lots of fun learning about the play through drama! In maths this week the children have worked hard exploring place value of numbers to 1,000,000. We also began creating our own Planet Information Books complete with pop up pages and inserts!
