Children will be given spellings to learn and are expected to show evidence that they have practiced their spellings, using cursive writing, in their homework book.
Please support your child by helping them to learn their spellings and the accompanying spelling rules (learning spelling rules helps the child with future words that they may encounter.) Knowing the rules will really help them in tackling future words.
Spellings will be tested on the Friday of the following week. If it becomes apparent (usually evident by the test results) that a child is not bothering to learn their spellings then they will be kept in over lunchtimes to learn them.
Spelling journals – Your child may also have words in their spelling journal; these are words that your child is incorrectly spelling when they are free writing. It is essential that they practice and learn the correct spelling so that they can correctly apply it next time they write.
