We had lots of fun at our Christmas party and we even had a special visitor!

CLC Visit

Alan from the CLC came to help Year 1 make animation with shapes. The children worked in pairs and made their own shape animation videos on I Pads. The children were very enthusiastic and they had a great day with lots of learning!

Children in Need

All the children looked great in their Pudsey and Spotty clothes! We started the day with the Big Morning Move (thank you Miss Gilchrist!) and later watched the duck race which Abigail won! The school raised a magnificent £345 which is incredible! Thank you everyone!!!smileysmileysmiley

DT Project

This week we have been designing and making levers and sliders. We started by trying out different methods of attaching and joining different materials. We used split pins, treasury tags, masking tape, Sellotape and glue to see which worked best.

Then we looked at different books that had levers, sliders and flaps in.
Next, we designed our robot, choosing which job it would do. We then discussed whether they needed to make a lever or a slider, depending on which job their robot would do.
Finally, we made our levers and sliders! All the children worked very hard and the results were fantastic! Well done Year 1!

Andy Tooze visit

We had a fantastic visit from Andy Tooze who read us some of us his amazing poems. We then had a go at writing our own poems about animals and the results were brilliant! Some children were then picked to read their poems out to others. An amazing and fun day!

As part of Power of Reading we have been exploring the book The Robot and the Bluebird by David Lucas.

The children have really enjoyed the book and have been drawing their own robots on our very popular doodle wall!
