Welcome to Year 4!

Welcome to Year 4's page! Our lovely Year 4 class have settled in well and are already becoming mature, resilient, independent learners.

Parent Information

• Year 4 PE day is Monday. Please ensure your child comes into school in full PE kit on these days. Please note: your child can wear leggings/tracksuit bottoms during the colder winter months!
• Year 4 Forest School takes place every Tuesday afternoon. If your child is in the selected group of 10 for that block, they can come to school in their warm outdoor clothes (including trainers/wellies!)
• Snack is 50p per week - this can be paid in class or on ParentPay.
• Homework is given every Friday. Your child has been given a purple homework book with their spellings, TTRS log-ins and Seesaw log-ins inside. Please ensure your child learns their 10 weekly spellings and accesses TTRS each week for extra play! Homework books must be returned to school the following Thursday to be checked.
• Reading daily is essential for learning across the curriculum. Please ensure your child reads aloud to you each night (remember to sign their reading record) to improve their fluency. Reading records are checked every Friday morning and are marked on whether they are a red, yellow or green reader (0-2 times a week is red, 3-4 times a week is yellow and 5+ times a week is green). Green readers (5 or more times a week) are rewarded with extra play!
• Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) is a brilliant app which allows your children to practice their times tables. Times tables are very important in Year 4 as each child will take part in the MTC in June. Over the course of the year, Year 4 will take part in engaging lessons across the whole primary curriculum. Take a look at some of the topics they will be covering this year:

Science:

• The digestive system;
• Classifying animals and organisms;
• Electricity;
• Solids, liquids and gases;
• Sound.

History:

• The Tudors;
• Anglo-Saxons vs Vikings;
• UK Crime and Punishment.

Geography:

• Rivers and the Water Cycle;
• The Alpine Region;
• Journeys of Trade.

Music:

• Studying the composer Beethoven;
• Learning to sing and play along to songs such as Mamma Mia, Lean on Me and Blackbird.
