No Outsiders is a scheme of work that explicitly promotes inclusivity and community cohesion. The message of welcoming people into the community and everyone belonging and having a place resonates clearly with our school values.
Through picture books and discussion, No Outsiders lessons build confidence in children to know they can live and work anywhere. The lessons encourage children to think and share what they would do if they were confronted with discriminatory behaviour. Essentially, it provides a framework in which children can learn that we are all different, and that is a positive thing.
No Outsiders directly supports our PSHE Jigsaw scheme of work and is an excellent gateway for discussion into topics around inclusion and making good choices that help and support others, as well as encouraging our children to be true to what they believe. As with PSHE Jigsaw, No Outsiders tackles topics which are age-appropriate to each year group.
No Outsiders ‘prepares children for life in modern Britain’ and includes the themes of:
No Outsiders lessons fit seamlessly into our existing PSHE Jigsaw scheme of work as they share many of the same learning objectives. Please see our overview below of the topics, books and lesson objectives for each No Outsiders lesson from Reception-Y6.
