'The Kirkby Child'

What is 'The Kirkby Child'?

'The Kirkby Child’ is a model made up of core values and skills that are important to pupils in Kirkby and are what all pupils can work towards in and out of school.

Kirkby High School came up with the idea of developing the model and because of the great reaction, all schools in Kirkby decided to get involved.

More than 50 values and skills were suggested by pupils at school council meetings which were then shared with the wider school community and local businesses. These were then narrowed down to the chosen nine values considered the most important for a child in Kirkby.

The Kirkby Child is:

  • Respectful
  • Honest and truthful
  • Positive attitude
  • Resilient
  • A good communicator
  • Confident
  • Committed and hardworking
  • Aspirational and ambitious
  • Polite

To launch The Kirkby Child, the children shared their creation with local businesses and shoppers to spread the word. Anna Morris and Anthony Bibby represented Eastcroft Park Primary School at the launch.
