The final update to school holiday dates for the academic year 2021-22 has been posted on the holiday dates page of the school website.

  • RSE Consultation with parents

Mon 14 Jun 2021 Mr Youngman

    DDD

    Dear parent(s)/carer(s),

As part of your child’s educational experience at Eastcroft Park Primary School, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future. We are proud of the approach that we take.

The Department for Education made changes to relationships and sex education following nationwide consultation which came into effect from September 2020 and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements by Summer 2021. The guidance can be found on the PSHE/RSE page of the school website. The guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing, safeguarding and healthy relationships. Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up will give children and young people the information, skills and positive values to have safe, fulfilling relationships and help them take responsibility for their own well-being.

We have reviewed the RSE curriculum and policy so we can be sure that RSE provision is appropriate for our pupils. Please read through the documents below which details how we are making sure that the needs of our pupils and the wider community are catered for.

As part of implementing the RSE/PSHE curriculum, schools must consult with the children, parents, staff and governors to ensure there is a general consensus on the approaches to policy and the curriculum content.

Eastcroft Park Primary School will be starting their consultation process on Monday 14th June 2021 and the consultation will close on Friday 18th June 2021. We would be grateful if parents/carers could read through the following consultation documents, which can be found on PSHE/RSE page of the school website.

    • PSHE/RSE Policy
    • PSHE/RSE Curriculum overviews (Jigsaw)

The school has adopted the Jigsaw scheme of work to support the delivery of the PSHE/RSE curriculum. Jigsaw have a produced a helpful guide for parents which explains the approach to the RSE curriculum.

    • Jigsaw guide for Parents and Carers on Sex and Relationship Education

If you wish to carry out further reading around RSE, the following documents may be of use to you (they can also be found on the PSHE/RSE page of the school website):

    • DfE RSE Guidance
    • RSE Primary School Guide for parents
    • RSE expectations by the end of primary school

We are keen to hear your thoughts about the curriculum and answer any further questions you may have. Please email the school eastcroft.de@knowsley.gov.uk if you have any comments, suggestions or you require further information. After the consultation period ends, we will inform you of any changes that have been made in light of your feedback.  Your child’s class teacher will let you know when the Changing Me unit of work will start and provide an overview of the content to be covered.

Parents cannot withdraw their child from Relationships Education as this is a statutory area of the curriculum. However, if parents would like to withdraw their child from some or all of the lessons on Sex Education please contact the school.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Miss J A Withey

  • Wildflower walks on the wild side

Fri 28 May 2021 Mr Youngman

Do you know your buttercups from your bluebells – and do you know which wildflowers are best for attracting local wildlife?

Then why not join Knowsley’s Green Space Rangers ‘Wildflower Walks for Wildlife’ at Court Hey Park, Huyton, Mill Dam Park, Kirkby, Halewood Park and Stadt Moers Park, Whiston during Garden Wildlife Week – 31 May to 6 June.

To join the fun all you have to do is take a picture of the sheet listing all of the flowers on the notice board at the park entrance, and then begin your search to match them with the wildflowers along the way.

There will be cards giving information about the sorts of wildlife attracted by the flowers alongside each plant. This will provide lots of information to anyone wishing to learn about the sorts of plants to grow in their own space to attract local wildlife.

  • Nature friendly schools

Thu 06 May 2021 Mr Youngman

We are pleased to announce that we will be working with Nature Friendly Schools, which is a ground-breaking project funded by the Department for Education and Natural England, with support from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

By developing teachers’ confidence and ability to drive forward outdoor learning in schools, Nature Friendly Schools will give thousands of children from some of the most deprived areas in England the opportunity to get closer to nature benefitting their learning, health and wellbeing, and care and concern for the environment. It will fuel creativity and a sense of adventure, allowing pupils to experience the joy that nature can bring, removing the inequality that currently exists.

Pupils will benefit from at least two hours spent learning outdoors every week, experiencing wildlife on their doorstep but also further afield. This can include long term changes such as the creation of new nature areas within their school grounds or the opportunity to visit local nature reserves or parks.

Nature Friendly Schools are holding a project launch webinar on Monday 10th May at 7pm via Zoom. Staff and parents are welcome to attend.

It would be great to see you there! Here is the link to register in advance. Once registered, you will receive email confirmation with Zoom details.

Mon 12 Apr 2021 Mr Youngman

    REMINDER: ROAD/PREMISES SAFETY
To maintain the safety of everyone in the school community we request that you keep to the following guidelines.
    • Please do not drive faster than 15mph – there are many pedestrians crossing the road at the start and the end of the day
    • Do not park on the yellow markings at the school gates
    • Please do not use the school vehicle entrance gate as a turning area

In summary, please respect others and take extra care as you drive to and from the school along Hollinghurst Road. When you have dropped off/collected your child please do not congregate around the school gates as this forces children to walk on the road.

    Class Photographs
Braiswick Photographers are coming into school tomorrow – 13th April 2021 to take the school class photographs.

If your child is in years 2 & 5 they can come to school in their PE kits as they have Beth Tweddle gymnastics in the afternoon. Other year groups please wear school uniform.

If you do not wish for your child to have their photograph taken please inform their class teacher or contact the school office on eastcroft.de@knowsley.gov.uk or 01514778210.

Eastcroft Park School is adhering to Covid-19 safety restrictions to ensure that everyone is kept safe.

  • When and where to get tested

Thu 25 Mar 2021 Mr Youngman

Reminder about when and where to get tested

Regular testing for COVID-19 is essential in order to detect people who have the virus – with or without symptoms. Importantly, they can then self-isolate and stop passing on the virus to other people. Remember if you have symptoms or if you, anyone in your household or support bubble tests positive for COVID-19, you must self-isolate for 10 days to prevent the further spread of the virus. Over the last few months, there have been different testing options introduced, so here’s our guide

to when and where to get tested depending on your circumstances.

    If you have COVID symptoms

If you have any of the COVID symptoms (high temperature, new or persistent cough or a loss of taste or smell), stay at home and book a test through www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or ring 119. There are 3 testing sites in Knowsley for people displaying symptoms (in Huyton, Kirkby and Stockbridge Village) and you will be offered the first available appointment at a test centre. Please note, you need an appointment to attend these testing sites.

If you don’t have symptoms and can’t work from home

There are 7 SMART test sites operating across the Borough offering testing (through Lateral Flow Tests). You don’t need to make an appointment, but please only visit these sites if you do not display any symptoms. For the locations and opening times, click here.

Remember a positive test means you have COVID-19 and you (and others in your household, support bubble and close contacts) need to self-isolate for 10 days.

If you live or work with children

If your household includes school children or people who work with school children, you can collect rapid (lateral) tests from Huyton, Kirkby and Stockbridge Village to carry out regular testing at home. These sites are open from 1pm until 8pm 7 days per week – no appointment is needed but please only attend during the specified times. You can find you nearest site here: https://find-covid-19-rapid-test-sites.maps.test-and- trace.nhs.uk/

    Secondary school testing

From 8 March when all pupils started to return to the classroom, testing was offered to secondary school pupils. The first three tests would be undertaken on the school premises and then your school will issue home testing kits for you to continue with regular testing at home (twice weekly).

Positive result from a test carried out at home

If you receive a positive test result from a test you have carried out at home, you are required to book a confirmatory test through www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or ring 119. This is not required if you receive a positive test from either the SMART testing site, a test conducted on school premises or a test carried out at the symptomatic testing sites.

    Importance of testing

COVID-19 is easily transmitted from person to person and many people can have COVID-19 without having any symptoms. That’s why regular testing is essential – it will identify people who have the virus so that they can self-isolate and stop passing it on to others.
